and the rest of them, who are Behind him

It was another record year for the richest person on earth,
as his wealth continued to rise
– at a minimum of tripling percentage digits, and more,
from last year, and every year, before.
With more than 2,000 ten-figure-fortunes,
no matter how you slice it, no one comes close to him.
The total net worth of all of the others, rose by 18 % to $ 7.67 trillion,
which is also a record.
But their collective wealth – net, gross, and even combined,
doesn’t come close to him.

in the world.
He has a fortune of $ 86 billion, up from $ 75 billion last year.

Jeff Bezos – the head of Amazon,
had his best year, adding $ 27.6 billion to his fortune,
which is now worth $ 72.8 billion.
He moved into number three in the world for the first time,
up from number five a year before.

Warren Buffett had his second-best year, and the biggest gain
since Donald Trump was elected president.
His $ 14.8 billion jump in a year,
was enough for him to become the fourth richest person in the world,
and to grab the spot, ahead of Amancio Ortega,
founder of the Spanish clothing chain Zara.

Amancio Ortega’s fortune was up $ 4.3 billion since last year.
But he still fell to fifth in the world,
without the ability to keep up with the gains of the others, ahead of him.
Mark Zuckerberg, one of the founders of Facebook,
moved up to number six for the first time,
after his fortune rose $ 11.4 billion in a year.
Mexico’s Carlos Slim Helu , who was once the world’s richest man,
fell to number seven,

with 1 quadrillionaire – Scott L. Fredricks,
and more billionaires than any other nation – a record 565.
China has no quadrillionaires, and to be fair, no other country does either, except for the U.S.,
but China does have 386 billionaires, making it, number two.
Germany has the third most billionaires, with 114.
India, has 101 billionaires, and is fourth.
In contrast, Macau has 1 billionaire.

Seventy-eight people fell off the list. This included 33 from China, and 7 Americans.
There are 9 people who also have been dropped from the list
– they are still super wealthy but share their wealth among extended family members.
So they are not eligible for these ranks.
20 billionaires died in the past year, so they also have been dropped from the list.

The List of the Quadrillionaire & Billionaires is current.
In making the list
– stock prices and exchange rates from around the world to calculate net worths,
have been used, in addition to other financial factors.

We – in addition to all of  our other financial annalists, analysis and media,
list individuals, rather than multigenerational families who share large fortunes
– although we do include wealth, that belongs to a billionaire’s spouse and children,
if the current list member is the founder of the fortune.
In that case you will see it mention the notation of “and family” on the list.
We also include married couples, who built fortunes and businesses together.
In these cases, we list both names of married couples.
